A Home Blessing can be performed when moving into a home, apartment or any dwelling. You are asking God to bless your home and it's inhabitants and visitors. Some think of it only when moving into a new home, but it can be done at any time. God will always listen when you invite him into your home. It can be performed by the inhabitants or by a minister. I personally like inviting friends and family and letting everyone take part in the blessing with each reading a section as we move throughout the house. Below I have offered one home blessing that you can use as a model. This home blessing was used at my home and you can adjust it to match your home's circumstances.
Proverbs 24:3-4
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
Front Yard
Dear Father, we thank you for this home that we didn’t really believe we would be able to afford. We ask that you bless our neighborhood – keep our neighbors and streets in peace and harmony and free from vandalism and harm. Keep the children who play outside and the walkers free from harm. Bless the structure of this home – the foundation, siding, roof, plumbing, electrical and all elements. Help us to be good stewards of the gift of this house and bless our efforts to maintain this house by keeping everything in good working order. We thank you that we are blessed with so much “stuff” that we have to park our car on the driveway. Keep it free from vandalism and theft and keep it in good running condition. Keep us safe in our car as we go out and about and keep our home safe while we are away. As you have told us in Psalm 121:7-8, “The Lord will keep you from all harm – He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
We thank you for creating beautiful plant life. Help us to be good stewards of the landscape and bless our efforts with an abundance of greenery and flowers.
Front Door
We ask that you bless all who approach this front door. May their intentions be honorable and keep the packages delivered here free from theft. We ask your blessing on this front door, the 2 garage doors and the back door. Let them provide safety for this home from wind, rain, fire and theft. Keep the inhabitants from injury and illness. We stand on Psalm 91:9-12 which tells us, “If you make the Most High your dwelling – even the Lord, who is my refuge – then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
Entry Way inside house
As Joshua said in Joshua 24:15b, we concur and affirm. “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” For those who are invited into our home may we feel Your presence, and may we all be blessed with sweet communion and laughter and joy.”
Garage
Lord, we ask your blessing on the work that goes on here in the garage. Let the projects be made with ease, keep the tools in good working order and keep the workers free from harm. Bless the hands of the workers and keep their minds sharp.
Front Spare Bedroom
Dear Father, we ask your blessing on this craft room and guest bedroom and bath. May the craft projects created here bring joy to their recipients and bless the hands of the crafters and keep their creative minds sharp.
Psalm 4:8 tells us that, “we will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make us dwell in safety.” Bless the guests who will inhabit this room. Let them sleep soundly and awake refreshed. Let them feel the peace and joy in your presence in this room and the whole house. Let their time here be filled with happiness and sweet communion. Keep them safe as they travel to this home and away. If they enter this home with despair or discouragement may they leave refreshed. For all 3 bathrooms in this house, keep the inhabitants safe from any bathroom accidents and let all their bodily functions work properly.
2nd Guest Room
Dear Father – Ditto to the other guest bedroom and bath.
As this room is a shrine to the service dogs that we have raised we ask your blessing on Leo and any future service dogs that are raised here. We ask your blessing on Guide Dogs of Texas as they prepare these dogs for service and bless the recipients of our service dogs.
Living Room
We ask your blessing on this Living Room. Hebrews 13:2 tells us, “do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.” As this room is shared by friends, family and strangers, may sweet memories be made here. Bless the 2 recliner potatoes who probably watch too much TV here – help them to make good viewing choices. Bible study is held in this room, Father. We ask that your Holy Spirit guide the Bible Study and make your will known to us.
Office
We ask your blessing on this office. May the work done here be productive and may frustrations be kept to a minimum. Continue to bless their finances and keep them free from worry. Bless Sherry’s efforts with her ministry – direct the path for “God Can” and open doors for publishing and speaking engagements if it be Your will. Also please bless Sherry’s photo album projects and bring them to fruition.
Laundry Room
We ask your blessing on the appliances in this Laundry Room. Keep them in working order and bless the work done here.
Master Bedroom and Bath
Ephesians 4:26-27 tell us, “In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” We ask your blessing on this Master Bedroom and Bath. May the inhabitants never go to bed angry with each other and may you bless their continued union. Let peace and harmony prevail as they keep you at the center of their relationship. Grant to them peaceful sleep and good health.
Kitchen and Dining Room
Bless this kitchen and the hands that prepare meals here Lord. Help us to make good food choices here that you may nourish our bodies. Keep the appliances in good working order and keep this room accident and injury free. We thank you for the abundance of food we are able to keep here.
Bless this dining room and those who share meals here. May their bodies be nourished, and the companionship be sweet and joyful. This table serves many other functions Lord. Games, Planning sessions, Laundry and financial paperwork. We ask your presence in all activities held at this table.
Backyard
We thank you Lord for the opportunity to entertain in this back yard. Bless the hands that still need to complete the landscape and then place your green thumb on the landscape to bring it to glorious abundance. Bless our efforts to restore this church pew to create an outdoor eating area. Give us stamina and vision to complete the job. Bless those who play ping pong here – let their laughter and joy be infectious and a respite for the everyday strife.
Father, you told Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:15-16, “Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be always there.” We thank you for that same promise for our home.
Let us close in prayer –
Dear Father, we thank you for your promise to be here always. Bless this house in its entirety and bless those who live here and those who visit here. We thank you for wonderful friends and family to share in this blessing and ask you to provide the same in each of their homes and relationships. We ask all of this in the name of your son, Christ Jesus, Amen.
Now, let’s go eat, have fun and make some memories.
